The China Planning and Development Institute is a not-for-profit corporation that engages Chinese and international stakeholders in a broad range of collaborative research and educational activities, in order to promote sustainable urbanization in China.
CPDI will become a recognized leader in the effort to create more sustainable cities, towns and regions in China. It will be an influential voice for sound urban policy, and a resource for practitioners and scholars seeking to participate in an ongoing dialogue about China's urban future. The organization will be supported by member contributions, funding from program activities, and charitable donations.
The China Planning and Development Institute was founded in 2004 (as the China-U.S. Urban Planning and Development Foundation) by a group of planning and business professionals interested in encouraging the sustainable urbanization of Chinese cities. The organization was created to serve as an important resource for professionals, government leaders, and the public at large to develop and promote existing and new strategies to cope with the urban planning and development challenges in China's fast-growing metropolises and regions.
